Pennsylvania Garage unknowns.
"The two opening tracks by the Wilde Things, both previously unreleased, are worth the price of admission alone. "Can't See the Sun" and "My Life Is Black" are both - as the titles might suggest - moody, strongly atmospheric punkers with sharp hooks. There's plenty of other moodiness on hand too: The Bats' "How Could You Have Known" is a hurtin' punk ballad with some great guitar, and the Creations lay down a reverb-swamped version of the Fantastic Dee-Jays' "Love Is Tuff."
There's fast-movin' action too, notably the Rising Tydes' "Don't Want You Around," a screamin', kit-rattlin' rocker that'd slot right onto the latest Back From The Grave.
Other highlights include the Savoys' out-of-tune-and-better-for-it "Only So Much" and "Got To Say Goodbye" (pure gut instinct and emotion - real!) and "A World Outside" by the Loose Enz, a brooding stomper quivering with potent, lost-love drama.
The liners get to the heart of what these kind of reissues are all about: "Some of the best music that has never been released until now has been waiting for the right time and place to make itself heard." The time is now.
